Clean water is not only important for people to produce food, but necessary for our life. However, many people in Asia and Africa don't have enough clean water to use. The World Health Organization reports that almost 4,000 children die each day of dirty water or lack (缺乏) of water.

Farmers use 70-85% of the world fresh water to produce food. People usually don't pay much attention to how much water industry(工業) uses, but you may be surprised to know that industry uses 59% of the water in developed countries.

Home use takes up(占據) only 8% in the world. But as cities grow, more water will be used. The local government has to try to make people use less water.

In 60% of European cities, people are saving water by using less. They even keep waste wafer for other use.

In Australia, the government has encouraged people to collect rainwater and recycle water from showers for a second use.

The US Environmental Protection Agency has made a water saving program to encourage families and businesses to check their water use and save more water. Scientists and the UN are looking for good water management as the key to solving the problem. We can all work together to protect our fresh water in our daily life.

2.People in Asia have enough clean water to use.

3.To save water, Australians and Europeans both choose to recycle water for a second use.

When Christie Andrews was born, she weighed less that half of one kilogram. Her heart was the size of a large coin. Her mother said Christie was so small that she could hold her in the palm of one hand.

Christie couldn’t breathe without a machine to give her oxygen. If she had been born 20 years earlier, she would probably have died at once. She needed two operations, but she survived without serious damage.

Twenty years ago , 90% of all premature(早產) babies died. Today, doctors manage to save four out of every five, because they have better machines for breathing and better ways to feed the babies.

But saving Christie’s life cost more than $ 400,000. In some cases, doctors spend 1 million dollars saving a single child. The parents usually don’t have enough money to pay. The government, an insurance company or the hospital picks up the bill. Even after a baby goes home from the hospital, it may require medical care.

Some people think it makes more sense to spend money saving 10 adults who have cancer or other diseases than saving one small baby. But nobody wants to be the doctor who has to tell parents to their faces, “Sorry, I won’t save your new child.”

1. Parents don’t pay their babies’ hospital bills because        .

A. they don’t have enough money

B. they would rather save cancer patients

C. doctors don’t care if the babies die

D. it makes more sense to have a bigger baby

2.The true cost of saving a baby may be even more than 1 million because        .

A. oxygen machine are expensive

B. the baby may require medical care after it leaves the hospital

C. doctors always charge more than they should

D. four out of five premature babies can now be saved

3.From the story we know that saving a cancer patient        .

A. is easier than saving a baby                           B. is harder than saving a baby

C. is cheaper than saving a baby                      D. is more common than saving a baby

4.The main idea of the article is        .

A. doctors must never decide whether to save babies or cancer patients

B. doctors are able to save premature babies, but the cost is very high

C. having a premature baby was cheaper and safer 20 years ago

D. Christie survived because the hospital paid her bills

The keys to reaching or staying at a healthy weight are regular exercise and good eating habits. Teens should get 60 minutes or more of physical activity a day. Note the word “activity”. As long as you’re getting your body moving, it doesn’t have to mean doing difficult exercise or going to the sports hall every day. All that matters is that each week you get the right balance of activity, including aerobics (有氧運動), strength building, and flexibility (柔韌) exercise. Make exercise a habit by arranging some time every day.

On days when you have soccer practice or an aerobics class, you may have no trouble exercising for an hour or more. But most of us are busy, and 60 minutes a day for exercise seems like a lot of time. The good news is that it’s OK to divide it into shorter exercise breaks throughout the day.

Just as you might have a healthy snack to stop yourself from getting hungry, exercise snacks can keep energy levels high. So get up 15 minutes early and do some stretching (伸展) activity. Walk fast or run slowly for 15 minutes after lunch. Do the same thing after school — or walk or bike home. Add to that taking the stairs, PE class, and walking between classes during the day, and you’ve probably reached your 60 minutes.

Here are five simple ways to make an exercise lifestyle change:

1.The writer thinks many people probably misunderstand the word“activity” to be “_______”.

A.physical activity

B.body movement

C.sports hall exercise

D.outdoor exercise

2.When exercising, the most important fact is ________.

A.the time spent on exercise

B.the intensity of activity

C.the difficulty of exercise

D.the right balance of activity

3.The author advises dividing activity into shorter exercise breaks because ___.

A.exercising for a long time is bad for people’s health

B.it has the same effect as soccer practice

C.people usually haven’t much time to exercise

D.no one can spare lots of time to exercise

4.What’s the best title for this passage?

A.Regular exercise.

B.School exercise.

C.Indoor exercise.

D.Difficult exercise
