To make traffic safe, many traffic rules have come out. The most common ones are speed limits. On streets in the city, the speed limit is usually 25 or 35 miles per hour. On the highway between cities, the speed limit is usually 55 miles per hour.
When people drive faster than the speed limit, a police officer can stop them and give them traffic tickets. The traffic tickets tell drivers how much money they should pay. If drivers receive too many tickets, maybe they cannot drive for a while.
At rush hours, traffic moves very slowly. At that time drivers do not get traffic tickets very often because they cannot drive fast. Therefore, there are fewer traffic accidents in the center of the city.
Nearly half of all childhood accidental injuries happen at home and in the garden.
Babies and children can fall out of people’s arms, from furniture, down steps and stairs, from windows and over objects on the ground. We should keep furniture away from windows and encourage children to put their toys away after use.
Hot drinks are also very dangerous for children. When you have hot drinks, keep them out of the reach of young children. And remember to put cold water in the bath first, and then add hot water.
